Quail, Manna & Sabbath

Quail, Manna & Sabbath

First off, if anyone needs oats or a loaf of brown sourdough, I know a person...

Admittedly this virus had initially swept me into the raging river of panic purchases, leaving me with 50+ lbs of flour - no I'm not a toilet paper hoarder and truth be told I missed the boat on the hand sanitizer or Lysol wipes so I'm exploring the DIY homesteading options with the strong stuff. Either way, my grocery bill was a bit higher than usual...shame on me.

And in spite of this, the past few days, God's voice had been echoing three words -

QUAIL

MANNA

SABBATH

I'm reminded of the Israelites in Exodus 16 leaving the capture of Pharaoh for the Promised Land.  I'm reminded of the quail and the manna -their daily sustenance that could not be hoarded, and how He made provision for rest, honouring the Sabbath.

GOD PROVIDES

And then, in the midst of all of this, an unexpected bill surprised me, draining a large portion of savings to pay it off. So I sit with a smaller than I’d like financial cushion, bleak side hustle prospects and not even the security blanket of my post mat-leave job available due to the virus…

So I put my palms up and I surrender...

And God reached out to me again with these words -

QUAIL

MANNA

SABBATH

In the midst of struggles and uncertainty – in the stillness when I surrender my time to Him – He delivers. He reminds me that He can part a sea to give safe passage, He can make a rock weep water, He can make wafers that taste like honey appear upon the ground (AND THEY HAVE A 24 hour expiry date EXCEPT once a week so they last on the SABBATH -what is up with that?!). Quail easily surrender themselves to provide nourishment to His people wandering the desert in search of the Promised Land. And in all of this, He’s not asking for a hustle. He’s asking for faith. He’s asking for His people to walk in stride with Him, to reflect, to remember. AND in return, He not only is caring for our basic needs, He is gifting us rest.

QUAIL – MANNA – SABBATH
